Annual Survey about Use of Dimensions of Data Quality

In order to measure the usage of the dimensions of data quality by organizations and related data quality topics, we began the Annual Dimensions of Data Quality Survey in the spring of 2015. The survey is a web-based assessment distributed via LinkedIn, Twitter, Email, etc. The last survey, published in November of 2024, had 39 valid respondents from various industries including (Finance, Consulting, Healthcare, Software, Chemicals/Mining/Petroleum/Textiles, Telecom and more).

2024 Executive Summary:

Overall data quality for organizations that use the Dimensions or don't use them

  • Organizations that measure Data Quality (DQ) by using the dimensions of data quality have identified and then reduced poor data quality by 15%. Organizations not using these frameworks underestimate the severity of their data quality problems. (red arrow on right)
  • 50% of organizations who don’t use dimensions of DQ said they couldn’t agree on a standard, so they gave up altogether.
  • 66% of the respondents said their organizations use the dimensions of DQ, but only 21% use them continuously.
  • Although 67% of organizations already use some data quality dimensions, a significant number (54%) express a strong interest in a standardized set. This suggests a willingness to refine existing approaches or adopt a standard to improve data quality management

The following is a key chart provided in the 2024 annual report to illustrate the increased use of some dimensions and nascent growth of others.
